DD-WRT350N – USB Multimedia

So I run DD-WRT on my Linksys WRT-350N router. I know the router comes with a media server, allowing music and videos to be played through a wireless connection. My goal is to get this working using DD-WRT, but I’m having trouble figuring out how to do this.

My first step was to upgrade my version of DD-WRT to v24-FINAL. Doing this gave me the option to enable USB via the web control panel. The upgrade went flawlessly. I enabled USB and my external hard drive is connected.

This is where I am right now. I’m doing a bit of reading into where to go from here, but it looks like I’m going to have to install some Optware packages. My main concern now is how much space I have on the router to be able install the packages I will need.

Keep me posted on this. I am love seeing some of the stuff that people can do when they unlock the full potential of their devices. Just like my buddy The Marion Cobretti when he enabled sshd on his MyBook. Crazy stuff, I love it.

Hey man, I’m assuming you got this going? I have the 600N, same deal, but worked out of the box as far as this goes, just a tad buggy on the rescans. I have always used ddwrt, but not on this atm. I may check it out though, hopefully mine also has enough space for decent firmware and maybe an extra item or two. ;)

I didn’t get it working. I believe I would have to install the Mini version of DD-WRT in order to have enough space to install optware. I don’t believe you can install optware on external storage, I tried and was unsuccessful.

Sucks! Throw it on eBay and replace with a 600N! I haven’t felt the need yet to even put DDWRT on it, although I bet I’d be happier when I do.
